Global transport and logistics company DSV has taken the bold step to reduce the year-on-year carbon footprint of its new UK distribution centre at Prologis Park Sideway through The Planet Mark™ sustainability certification.
DSV has committed its new distribution centre at Prologis Park Sideway, Stoke-on-Trent, for the next three years to The Planet Mark™ sustainability certification programme. This means it has committed to measure and report the environmental impacts of the building’s operations for the next three years and has set a target to cut its carbon footprint by 5% annually.
The move by DSV follows the decision by Prologis UK, the property company which developed Prologis Park Sideway, to have the whole-life carbon impact of the DSV distribution centre officially certified by The Planet Mark™, as part of its long-standing commitment to sustainable development. As well as certifying buildings and businesses, The Planet Mark™ recognises new developments that go beyond compliance. Working with the environmental charity Cool Earth, Prologis UK also mitigated 110% of the carbon involved in the construction of the buildings on Prologis Park Sideway by protecting 169 acres of rainforest in Ashaninka, Peru.

This legacy of sustainable development is something we gift to every owner or occupier of a Prologis building in the UK, allowing them to start their own sustainability journey.”
By signing up to a three-year commitment to reduce its environmental impacts year-on-year at Prologis Park Sideway, DSV’s goal is to continue the sustainability initiative provided by Prologis UK and build on the strong environmental foundations it provides.
This will include ongoing employee engagement to reduce carbon, energy, water and waste and continuing support for those schools that benefited from community engagement through The Planet Mark™ – which funds education officers from the Eden Project, a founding partner of the sustainability certification programme, to go into local schools close to our developments and talk to the children about sustainability and how they can play their part in protecting the planet.

The Planet Mark™ was founded in 2013 with the iconic Eden Project in Cornwall. Since then, it has certified every new building developed by Prologis UK, which this year is celebrating 10 years of measuring, reducing and mitigating the carbon emissions embodies in the structure and fabric of its new buildings.
Holders of The Planet Mark™ have a minimum requirement to reduce their carbon emissions by 2.5% per year.
