We have made further progress to increase the recycled content of the plastics we use with the introduction of 50% recycled content in the plain and printed shrink-wrap we use – with the 50% coming from post consumer recycled waste (PCRW).
Our brands such as Crosse & Blackwell, Branston baked beans*, Aqua Pura, Jucee, and all the own label we supply will have 50 % PCRW shrink-wrap by the end of 2019.
The UK Plastic Pact calls for 30% recycled content of plastics by 2025 so we are ahead of the curve once again on this one following our introduction of 50% Recycled PET in all our soft drinks and oils earlier this year.
Shrink film around cases and on multipacks represents the second largest use of plastic in our UK manufacturing operations by weight so it’s a significant step. Our ultimate goal is to reach the maximum possible recycled content for all the plastics we use as soon as we possibly can and preferably with UK material.
While its important to look at recycled content we are also exploring some areas where we can remove shrink film it and replace with card…..watch this space.
